How Is Pom Different from Classic Cheer?

While both are team-based spirit activities, Pom and traditional cheer have different focuses.

Pom Team

  • Dance-focused

  • Uses pom-poms in choreography

  • Emphasizes sharp motions and synchronization

  • No stunting

  • Performance and dance technique driven, including tumbling and lifts

Classic Cheer

  • Includes stunts, lifts, and tumbling

  • Focuses on chants and crowd-leading

  • More stunt-based skill progression

Pom is perfect for athletes who love dance, rhythm, and performing but prefer a non-stunting environment.

This program is open to athletes, living in Lynnfield, in grades 5–8. No prior cheer or dance experience is required — just a positive attitude and willingness to learn!

The Pom team practices once per week throughout the August–November season. Consistent attendance is important so athletes can learn choreography and stay in sync with the team.
