First, we wanted to thank everybody for another successful flag football season here in Lynnfield. The kids had a lot of fun, and we can’t wait to see them out on the field in a few months.
As a reminder, this past season was just the 3rd season of flag in Lynnfield. We appreciate the feedback we have received and continue to learn how to make this fun for the children and a great all-around experience. That said, we have looked at ways to address some of the common themes from the feedback since we began this journey and some general housekeeping around next season.
Registration for the Fall season will open in mid-July, and the season will kick off on September 10th and run through October. Registration will close the 2nd week of August to allow for roster creation and schedule construction, as well as to ensure we have plenty of lead time to order equipment.
Divisions are always constructed based on our numbers at each grade level (K-5). However, we acknowledge that for our youngest players in Kindergarten, this is still a learning experience, whereas our 2nd graders have played multiple seasons. For this reason, our youngest players will remain in their division to have the best opportunity to learn and have fun! Divisions for 1st through 5th graders will be determined based on registration numbers, so spread the word!
K Division Expansion
As mentioned above, we want our youngest players to learn, so we need to have enough players in this division. For that reason, we will allow players who are AGE 5 by 9/15/22 but may not be in Kindergarten yet (so a birthday of 9/15/17 or earlier) to register for this division. We would not expect to see players with a birthdate of 9/16/17 or later. The success of this division will heavily depend on having a lot of helping hands on the field, so please don’t be shy about clicking that box to volunteer!
We know many of you have a pile of jerseys in your home from various sports and seasons. This season, there will be an option for returning players who have a jersey from a previous season to select that as an option during registration. Those who do will receive a $10 discount on their registration.
We are grateful for the number of individuals who step up and coach these kids. The program would not be successful without it. We want to ensure our coaches are on the same page and that new coaches can ask questions. Therefore, we will hold a mandatory meeting for all coaches and fill out a Code of Conduct form in addition to CORI. This meeting will align the coaching practices we have for our tackle organization with the flag.
